| Hematology is a medical specialty that encompasses the science of blood, blood-producing organs and blood disorders. Hematology includes the genetics, diagnosis, treatment and prevention of blood and blood-borne diseases. Blood contains most of the energy, nourishment and defense our bodies need to sustain life. In addition to treating cancer, a hematologist treats patients with blood clotting disorders such as hemophilia, anemia, Gaucher’s disease, and myelodysplastic syndrome.
At the Hope Health Center hematology department, our hematologists study, diagnose and treat cancer-related blood disorders. They work with medical technologists who analyze blood in our onsite lab. They also use our state-of-the-art electronic medical records (EMR) system to speed the delivery of hematologic reports.
